FreeRice which I first came across via Ms. K [1] is a neat concept. Play a vocbulary game and if you get a word right, 10 grains of rice are donated through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to hungry people.
Even if you don’t have altruistic motives and have enjoyed vocabulary games, you can still play. The site’s servers do not know your intentions.
The words get increasingly difficult as you get them right and the game is addictive, so it’s perfect during work meetings, after-lunch work at the desk, and other working activities.
Did I mention that it was free? Go play
[1]: It just sounds cool to say it this way.

Hey, thanks so much for posting this and spreading the word. I’ll be blogging about it some more in the future, but here’s something I thought you’d like to know.
From a WFP press release:
“Yesterday marked the one billionth grain of rice donated to WFP through an innovative, dynamic online campaign – enough to feed more than 50,000 people for one day.”

Oh, forgot to mention. For people who’re curious, “FreeRice relies on private companies’ ad space payments to underwrite donations to WFP.”

You’re welcome and I should’ve blogged about it earlier actually but the dreaded inertia hit again.
Cool to hear about the one-billionth grain being donated–that is a pretty big number and hopefully the site will attract more people in the future.
