Two men are kissing on screen. It’s tastefully done. Yet, someone seated in the same row as me says, How can they do that? Yuck. (Paraphrasing here) You really had to wonder what planet she was from.
The kiss was tasteful and it looked like a kiss between two people who were in love with each other. So what if they’re two men? And, good actors too.
Brokeback Mountain, as I am sure you’ve heard by now, is a tale of forbidden love between two cowboys. Heath Ledger and Jake Gylenhall are magnificient as Eineus Delmaar (spelling?) and Jack Twist. It’s a shame neither won an Oscar because they were brilliant. Next time maybe.
The story moves at a slow pace but it’s never boring–you get the sense that something’s going to happen and it does. It’s sad but not melodramatic and the story shows and doesn’t tell–a sign of great writing. I can also see why Ang Lee got the Oscar–the movie was superb.
Having said all this, I am not sure that too many people in India will watch this movie and if they do, like it. Firstly, it’s the topic, secondly it’s the story, thirdly it’s the topic. I was surprised that the movie actually made it past the censor board and the moral police.

My Friend, she’s on the same planet I am. like most people.
I don’t know whether this came across in the post but I meant it from the point of view of her not being aware that there are gay people in this world. It seemed to me from her tone that she wasn’t and that was surprising, at least to me.
