The Only Place

This post falls into the “I can’t believe I have not blogged about this yet” category.

The Only Place (yes, that’s the name) is one of my favourite restaurants in Bangalore. I discovered it a couple of years ago because my ex-boss recommended it and I’ve helped other people discover it since.

The Only Place serves steaks, lasagnas, spaghetti, burgers, and more. There’s even Indian stuff like kababs and biryani, but I’ve never tried it. The steaks are superb–cooked to specification (I recommend medium-well done, or medium if you don’t mind a little pink) and served with a side of mashed potatoes, veggies, and tasty garlic bread.

The lasagna is out of this world and is a must-try as well. The burgers are quite good too, so if it’s a light meal you’re looking for, then this is your choice. Be aware, that “light” is used in the context of the other stuff served at the restaurant.

As if all that wasn’t enough, the apple pie with cream is decadent and worth all the guilt you’ll feel afterwards. What’s life without a good dessert?

If you haven’t been here, go–the restaurant is on Museum road, on the same side as Empire and Premier bookshop.

The only knock on the place, if drinking’s your thing, is that they don’t serve alcohol. Not a problem, there are quite a few bars around; so poison yourself beforehand and then eat.

PS: It’s hard to write about a place like this because if you mention all the food that you get there, you’ll end up sounding like an expanded menu.

  1. The Only Place is one of my favourite restaurants too. I like the ambience of the restaurant in addition to the food. Their lasagna and cheese cake make me a very happy and content woman :)

  2. i do not agree with you. a bunch of us had been there and the service was shabby. it was really bad and i vowed never to go back again.

  3. Came across your blog quite by accident- its going to be 6 AM and i’ve been doing my research since 4:30 (looking for ph nos of a few restaurants i want to try out this weekend). Couldn’t find anything useful on the Water Front in Hyd except here. Liked some of the posts in your “most read” list, so looked around. Which is when i chanced across this post. Couldn’t agree more! Visited The Only Place in the summer of 2005 with my boyfriend and both of us absolutely loved it. Hope I agree with your review of the Water Front too :)
PS: If you haven’t tried out Fiorano yet, pls do- have a feeling you’ll like it. Serves Italian. 100 ft road, Koramangla. Made New Year’s Eve special- dinner was fantastic (lavish is an understatement) and service excellent.
Procrastinated PS : Neat blog (sorry. stole that from one of ur posts) :)

  4. Preeti: Thanks for your comment. Glad you liked the blog and found the information helpful. I have tried Fiorano once but have not blogged about it yet–the procrastination demon strikes again.

  5. Water Front was great; the place has a surreal air about it- music was delightful, food good, attentive yet unobtrusive waiters and the Oh, the View!

PS- do drop me a mail if u beat the procrastination bug wrt Fiorano; would like to read what you have to say on it.

  6. I am in Bangalore. Thanks for the tip about “The Only Place”. Will try it out.
Going to Mambai soon. Any recommendations places to eat? Things MUST see or do while there?
    Thank you.

  7. I’ve never lived in Mumbai and have only visited once for a short time, so I don’t know much about the place. You should be able to find something via other sites like though.
