Sevilla full-back Puerta passes away

From a story by The Guardian:

Sevilla’s international left-back Antonio Puerta died yesterday afternoon at the age of 22, after suffering a heart attack during his side’s victory over Getafe on Saturday night.

Puerta, who had twice before been forced to pull out of matches after suffering dizzy spells, was pronounced dead at 1.30pm Spanish time and the news was made public 2½ hours later. José María Del Nido, the Sevilla president, described yesterday as “one of the saddest days in the history of the club”.

I’d been following the story via left back and this morning read in the paper that he passed away:

22 years of age, a baby on the way, a great career ahead of him, it’s just too sad.

May he rest in peace.
