World Environment Day 2008

Today, June 5th, is World Environment Day. India celebrated it by increasing the price of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas yesterday, a move that is supposed to help the environment by reducing the amount of petrol, etc. people buy. Okay, maybe not.

The UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) has a list of things you can do for WED and a twelve-step program to kick the CO2 habit.

Now, if we could have a twelve step program to kick the vehicle manufacturers and the industrial polluters, we’d be all set.

We finish with a thought from today’s DH article titled Stand up! for green earth by actress Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. (emphasis mine)

I think locally and act globally and environment issues are a concern for me personally. I see to it that no water is wasted, I try reusing and A/C comes in only when I need it absolutely.”

If only we could all make such sacrifices, the world would be a better place.
