Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, for all you non-Indy fans out there, is the much-awaited fourth edition of a highly successful series. Harrison Ford is back as Indiana Jones and his character is older, just like Ford.
This time Jones has to tackle the Russians and find his old friend and a crystal skull and blah blah. George Lucas co-wrote the story for this part and you can see the influence in the way the story unfolds. I don’t mean that in a good way.
After Indiana Jones Part 3, which was arguably the best of the lot, Part 4 was a letdown for me. The pace was sluggish at times and though there are action sequences, it felt like the old Indy sequences were being rehashed. Maybe I’d have liked this movie better had I not seen Prince Caspian the day before but that’s the way the lentil donut crumbles.
Is it a bad movie? No, but it’s not in the same class as the other three. I don’t like Temple of Doom much but I’d watch that before I sit through Part 4 again. If you’re a die-hard Indiana Jones fan, you’ll probably want to watch anyway, but if you’re not you can give it a miss.
At least we have The Dark Knight to look forward to.
