On Indian hockey’s changing fortunes

I forgot to mention that India recently won the Azlan Shah trophy after a gap of 13 years, beating both Pakistan and Malaysia in the process. We struggled a bit here and there, but there is no doubt about the confidence boost that this kind of win will give. However, this post is not about the players, but about the coach of the Indian hockey team, Harendra Singh.

In this interview with Sidney Kiran for Deccan Herald, Singh comes across as a smart guy who seems to know what he’s doing. Despite the interim tag on his job, he’s taking a long-term view of what’s to be done for Indian hockey. Given the way our hockey team has been managed the last few years, this is a welcome change.
